How did I get here?

Let's go back, WAY back.

I was a late bloomer, not getting my period until 14 years old after all my friends had already started. And then, my cycle was sporatic, no rhyme or reason when it would show up. By 18, I was diagnosed with PCOS after my cycle failed to make an appearance for over a year. I was put on birth control to control symptoms and regulate me.

Fast forward a few years and I was married for the first time and trying to conceive. After a year of trying with no luck, my OB/GYN put me on Clomid. I tried 50mg, 100mg and 150mg and neither made me ovulate. I was referred to a Reproductive Endocrinologist. Another round of Clomid, no luck, so we did injectables with IUI. I got pregnant and had a successful pregnancy resulting in my 8.5 year old son, Tristan.

I did end up divorced from my son's father and in a new relationship some time later. Nick and I have been together almost 7 years now and just recently married on 11-22-16. We started TTC in June 2016. No ovulation and sporatic periods. Here we go again. After 6 months, we were ready for more invasive options. I made an appointment with a RE. After a consultation and bloodwork, we we going to try another injectable cycle with IUI; however, my husband's sperm sample came back with only 1.5% morphology. Another meeting with the RE and IVF w/ ICSI was recommended for us. His office only does FET cycles as it has a higher success rate. Also, we decided to do PGS on the blastocysts for a higher success rate. It is an additional $5500 that insurance does not cover, but felt it was worth it for peace of mind.

My husband has been very supportive through all of this, attending all meetings and going with me to appointments when needed. Financially, I am lucky we are able to pay for IVF out of pocket without any issues. My insurance does cover a small portion. The costs alone can be a big burden for some families and most don't have any insurance coverage. So for this, we felt lucky.
