Embryo Transfer and PUPO!

Today was the last procedure in a long journey.

The morning started off hectic as upon waking, I realized both dogs were missing. Doogan and Daisy had escaped through the backyard gate that mistakenly left open the night before. I finally found them; however, both were covered head to toe in mud! Sticky leaves were matted in their fur and our clean house was now covered in dirty paw prints. We had enough time to wash Daisy in the tub before leaving for acupuncture at 7:15am for a 8am appointment, which thanks to Houston traffic, I was late 10 minutes.

Stephen (acupuncturist) was able to get me calm before leaving for the procedure. We arrived at the hospital center at 9:30am and the procedure started at 10:46am, impeccable timing!

We were given a picture of our future baby girl and it was so surreal! I drank a bottle of water and took my 800mg Ibuprofen about an hour before the transfer started. As we waited in the small patient waiting room, Nick and I were in good spirits! Laughing, taking pictures on our phones and happy. This was it!

I was surprised how uncomfortable the procedure was. Everything I read online stated this was the easy part. Nick held my hand the whole time and I must say, I gripped his hand tightly, poor guy! My bladder was so full and every push of the ultrasound wand made lots of pressure. A speculum was inserted, then another that was angled as Dr Yeh struggled to get the catheter into the right position in my uterus. It took longer than I expected and was rather uncomfortable. I wished I had a valium as I could feel myself getting anxious.

I had a great view of the ultrasound monitor and watched the whole time. My lining is perfect and thick I was told. When the doctor had everything in position, the embryologist brought in a long apparatus that contained our baby girl and it attached to the catheter.

I was told to watch for a flash of light AND IT WAS MAGICAL! Just like that, a burst of light on the monitor and our little embryo was inside my uterus. They handed me a picture from the ultrasound of that moment and I was overcome with emotion and started cry. It was such a sweet moment shared between all of us in the room.  I was then put on a gurney and brought back to recovery to immediately go urinate and put on my clothes. I was released just like that. I was told to hang out and watch happy movies all weekend. Modified bed rest.

And now the TWW begins!
